Bansu is a sculptor and art educator whose practice explores the relationship between nature, memory, material, and the spaces people inhabit. Working primarily in sculpture, she brings together thoughtful form, tactile surfaces, and material contrasts to create works that invite viewers to pause, observe, and connect with the ideas behind them. With an academic background that includes a Bachelor’s degree with Psychology and training in sculpture, Bansu approaches art through both visual sensitivity and an interest in human perception. Her professional journey has grown through sustained studio practice, participation in exhibitions and art initiatives, and a commitment to sharing creative processes through workshops and art education.
Her work engages with materials such as stone, brass, and reclaimed or found elements. She is interested in the dialogue between the strength and permanence of stone, the warmth and precision of metal, and the expressive possibilities of combining different materials. Her sculptural language balances contemporary form with a sensitivity to craftsmanship, texture, rhythm, and space.
Nature is a recurring source of inspiration. Memories of gardens, birds, and living landscapes inform works that reflect on belonging, shelter, and the fragile balance between human activity and the environment. Through these ideas, Bansu considers how construction and changing landscapes can affect the habitats of other living beings. Rather than offering a single interpretation, she aims to create forms that encourage reflection and emotional engagement.
Bansu’s exhibition journey includes a two-person exhibition in 2009, along with participation in juried art platforms and exhibitions. Her recognitions include a Gujarat State Lalit Kala Academy scholarship in 2006, a national-level recognition from the Bombay Art Society in 2007, a sculpture award from Kala Pratishthan, recognition from the Gujarat State Lalit Kala Academy, and a second prize in an Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav art competition. Her work was also selected by the Art Society of India in 2026.
Alongside her studio practice, Bansu conducts hands-on art workshops that encourage people to explore materials, develop confidence, and experience the process of making. For her, sculpture is both a way of giving form to ideas and a means of creating a lasting connection between people, nature, and the world around them.
Experience, Feedback or Suggestions:
Participating in Kala Samvad’s Taj-04 exhibition was a valuable opportunity to present my work, connect with fellow artists, and interact with visitors who appreciate art. I especially enjoyed the conversations and the shared creative energy. Thank you to the team for creating this platform; continued artist networking and post-event visibility would make it even more meaningful.
