Artist Nidhi Choudhri (IAS) | Director, National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA), Mumbai

Nidhi Choudhari is an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 2012 Maharashtra cadre who currently serves as the Director of the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA), Mumbai, under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. She took charge of the position in August 2024.

In addition to her administrative career, she is also known as:
• A painter, with a lifelong interest in visual arts.
• A writer and poet, whose works have appeared in newspapers and other publications.
• A public speaker and advocate for making museums more accessible and inclusive.

As Director of NGMA Mumbai, her stated vision includes:
• Making the museum a vibrant public cultural space rather than only an exhibition venue.
• Expanding educational programs, artist interactions, workshops, film screenings, and interdisciplinary collaborations.
• Increasing accessibility and public engagement with modern and contemporary Indian art.

Before joining NGMA, she held several important administrative positions in Maharashtra, including:
• Joint Municipal Commissioner, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.
• District Collector and District Magistrate.
• Other state and central government assignments during her IAS career.
