Pamarthy Shankar is an artist, caricaturist and cartoonist from Hyderabad, India. Shankar, who has received many national and international awards as a painter and caricatureist, has been inspired by the principles of Mahatma Gandhi from his childhood. Gandhi's pictures, who looked modest wearing a simple dhowati, fearlessly faced the powerful British Empire, left an indelible mark on Shankar's heart during his school days.
Since then, Gandhi has become one of the most beloved people of Shankar's successful career. Shankar combines satirical and surreal trends in his films. His poems focus on ordinary people, revealing rarely-seen aspects of humanity. Shankar uses satire and exaggeration as decoration in his cartoons published in newspapers to describe the plight of common man.
Shankar's line drawings and paintings on contemporary subjects have attracted the attention of prominent galleries. Aya's galleries invited him to participate in the exhibitions that they arrange. In this journey, the current exhibition titled 'Mahatmudu' with Gandhi's biography expands the scope of Shankar's painting skills further.
For the first time in 2019, on the occasion of Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary, an exhibition of paintings by Shankar 'Gandhi' at Kalakruti Art Gallery, Hyderabad, reflecting his love and affection for Mahatmudi. Padmashree Lakshmagoud inaugurated the exhibition of 150 Gandhi films by Ruchishy Sharma. After five years, Shankar is coming in front of art fans with new Gandhi pictures.
The pictures and sketches in this exhibition which is being arranged in the name of 'Mahatma' are an artistic tribute to Gandhi and his principles by Shankar. Shankar is organizing this exhibition not only to announce the inspiration of Mahatma through his paintings, but also to keep Gandhi's philosophy of life alive for generations to come. It's not just a dream come true, it's a rare honor that Shankar had arranged an exhibition in the place where Gandhi once resided.
